סוּדָר
סוּדָר(mostly pl. form סוּרָרִין) f. (סָרַר; cmp. דּוּר II) scarf wound around the head and hanging down over the neck, turban. Sabb.120a וסודר שבצוארו and a scarf hanging down over his neck (v. Rashi); Y. ib. XVI, end, 15d וסודרין שעל זרועותיו (not וסי׳) hanging down over his arms. Succ.51b וחזן … והסודרין בידו and the superintendent of the synagogue stood there with a scarf (as a flag) in his hand; ומניף בסודר; Tosef. ib. IV, 6 בסודרין; Y. ib. V, 55b top בסודרין, v. נוּף; Snh.VI, 1. Ib. VII, 2 (52b) ונותנין סודר קשה לתוך הרכה (Y. ed. סודרין) they put a twisted scarf of coarse material within a soft one and wound it around his neck; a. fr.(Lat. sudarium is a phonetic coincidence with our w., from which it differs in meaning.
